Urgent Call for Foster Homes and Pet Adoptions Amid Capacity Limitations at Local Shelters

Garland, TX – The area animal shelters are currently facing a critical overcapacity situation, prompting an urgent appeal for foster homes to provide temporary care for their pets. In recent weeks, the Garland Animal Shelter and the City of Rowlett Animal Services have stressed an urgent need for the community to foster and adopt pets as they reach capacity.

“Our shelter is currently over capacity, and we need your help more than ever,” the Garland Animal Shelter shared today. “We are urgently looking for foster homes to give our dogs a safe, loving place to stay. Even short-term fosters can make a huge difference!”

Fostering not only creates space for incoming animals but also allows shelter dogs to decompress in a home environment, revealing their true personalities. This insight is invaluable for potential adopters seeking to find their perfect match. The shelter emphasizes that fostering can be as brief as a weekend or extend to a few weeks, making it accessible for many community members.

The Garland Animal Shelter provides all necessary supplies and support, encouraging residents to offer their time and love to save lives. Those interested in fostering can learn more and sign up through the shelter’s Foster Program page.

In a similar vein, the City of Rowlett Animal Services reported on May 13 that they, too, are in a state of crisis, declaring a “CODE RED” for both dogs and cats. Their facilities are overwhelmed, and they are seeking immediate assistance through adoptions, fosters, or rescues. With an adoption fee set at just $25, the Rowlett shelter is hopeful that community members will step forward to help.

As the need for foster homes intensifies across the region, both the Garland and Rowlett Animal Shelters are calling on residents to consider opening their hearts and homes to animals in need. Together, we can provide these deserving pets with the second chance they deserve.
