ROWLETT, TX — Rowlett High School recently hosted an exciting track meet for local 4th and 5th graders, organized by Rowlett Elementary PE Coach Christy Hedgecock. The event aimed to strengthen the connection between the elementary school and the high school.

Coach Hedgecock shared her vision for the meet, stating, “As a PE teacher, it is a desire for my elementary school to be connected to our local high school. I had a dream of having a track meet, and Coach Alford at Rowlett High School helped make it a reality.”
The high school students played an important role in conducting the track meet, providing encouragement and support to the younger participants. “Younger kids just love to see high school kids. It makes them feel special,” Hedgecock added. The enthusiasm from the high schoolers created a positive atmosphere, motivating the elementary students as they competed.
Looking ahead, Hedgecock expressed her hopes for the future. “Next year, my desire is for all the feeder schools of Rowlett High School to be able to participate together in a city-wide track meet,” she said.
The event not only showcased the athletic talents of the young students but also fostered a sense of community and school spirit. As the program grows, Coach Hedgecock is optimistic about further enhancing connections between the schools and the community.
