Garland, TX — As early voting for the municipal elections in Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse comes to a close, local officials are urging residents to make their voices heard. So far, the turnout has been low, with only 4.4% of registered voters in Garland casting their ballots (5,676 people). Rowlett has seen a slightly higher turnout of 6.3% (2,543 voters), while Sachse leads with 8.3% (1,115 participants).
Municipal elections play a critical role in shaping local governance and community services. Every vote counts, and low turnout can result in decisions that do not reflect the will of the community. ID Requirements
Under Texas law, when casting ballots in person, voters must present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo ID at the polls. These include:
- Texas Driver’s License
- Texas Election ID Certificate
- Texas Personal ID Card
- Texas Handgun License
- U.S. Citizenship Certificate with Photo
- U.S. Military ID Card
- U.S. Passport (Book or Card)
- Voter Registration Certificate with Permanent Exception Status
If you cannot present one of the above forms of ID and have a valid reason, you may use a supporting form of ID from List B and execute a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. List B documents include:
- Certified Birth Certificate (Copy or Original)
- Current Utility Bill (Copy or Original)
- Bank Statement (Copy or Original)
- Government Check (Copy or Original)
- Paycheck (Copy or Original)
- Government Document
Alternatively, voters have the option to leave the polling place and return before the close of the polls on election day with an acceptable form of photo ID. If they meet all other qualifications, they can then proceed to cast a regular ballot. Voters must be in line by 7 PM on election day to exercise this option.
If a voter is unable to present any of the previously mentioned forms of ID or supporting documents, or if there are questions regarding their eligibility, they must be offered a provisional ballot by the Election Judge.
