Garland, TX – As Juneteenth approaches, the cities of Garland and Rowlett are gearing up to commemorate this significant holiday with celebrations on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Both cities will host unique events aimed at honoring freedom and reflecting on the historical importance of this day.
Garland Juneteenth Celebration
The City of Garland invites residents to join its annual Juneteenth celebration from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Downtown Garland Square. This year’s event promises an evening filled with live entertainment, delicious food from local downtown restaurants, and a special activity area for children. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on the significance of emancipation and the ongoing journey toward freedom.

A highlight of the Garland celebration will be the Juneteenth Art Exhibit, which showcases 2D visual artists inspired by the theme of Juneteenth. The artwork will be displayed on Fifth Street during the event, and following the celebration, it will be moved to the Epiphany Gallery for further viewing. This exhibition aims to provide a platform for artists to express their interpretations of freedom and unity.

Rowlett Juneteenth Celebration
In Rowlett, the Juneteenth celebration will take place indoors at the Rowlett Community Centre from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on June 14. This event comes after the cancellation of the outdoor brunch due to inclement weather.
The Rowlett celebration will feature State Representative Rhetta Bowers as a guest speaker, as well as performances by the Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church Choir and the Dallas Poetry Slam. Although the brunch aspect has been removed, attendees can still enjoy treats from a donut food truck on site.

As Mary Elliott, Curator of American Slavery at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, noted, Juneteenth places Black voices at the center of the conversation about freedom.
