Garland and Rowlett Runoff Election Results to Be Canvassed on June 17

Garland, TX – The results of the recent Garland Mayoral and Rowlett City Council runoff elections will undergo an official canvass on Tuesday, June 17. The canvass is a post-election process that aggregates and confirms that all valid ballots cast in the election are accurately counted and included in the final election results.

The canvassing process allows election officials to confirm the accuracy of the vote count, adjudicate any provisional ballots, and resolve any ballot marking errors. During the canvass process, elections officials will reconcile the number of ballots cast with the number of voters. Officials can then ensure that all procedures were followed correctly during early voting, absentee voting, and Election Day.

During the canvass, the presiding officer of the local canvassing authority will conduct an open meeting to review the election results. This process is mandatory and must be completed no later than the 11th day after Election Day. In this case, the June 17 canvass will confirm the results of the runoff elections conducted earlier this month.

Once the canvass is complete, the presiding officer will prepare and issue a Certificate of Election for each candidate elected in the runoff. This certificate will contain the candidate’s name, the office they have been elected to, and the date of the election. Newly elected officials may then take the Oath of Office and assume their duties.

The canvassing of votes is a vital step in maintaining the transparency and integrity of the electoral process, ensuring that every voice is counted in the democratic process.
