Rowlett, TX — Caliber Car Wash-Rowlett is hosting a fundraising event this weekend, April 25-27, to benefit the Garland 9th Street Gym Project. General Manager Kerry Hoffer invites the community to come out and support local athletes, emphasizing the importance of this initiative in fostering youth development through sports.
Day 2 of the fundraiser featured free hamburgers grilled by David Swavey and the celebrations last all weekend long. Participants can enter a raffle for a chance to win an Unlimited Wash Membership for a Year and a signed boxing glove. Notably, 100% of the raffle proceeds will directly support the gym.
This weekend’s event also highlights the contributions of Dave Swavey, a retired Garland Police Lieutenant and co-founder of the Garland Police Boxing Gym. Having started his career with the Garland Police Department in 1981, Swavey served in various units before retiring in 2015. His passion for community service continued as he became the co-founder of the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas, which supports first responders and their families during times of need. Additionally, he co-founded the Garland Police Boxing Gym, which was created to be a safe haven for at-risk youth. His unwavering commitment to service has transformed countless lives and earned him numerous accolades, including the Homer B. Johnson Legacy Award from the Garland Sports Hall of Fame.
The funds raised during this event will be instrumental in providing:
- Nutritional snacks for the athletes
- Up-to-date training equipment
- Essentials for karate and boxing programs
- Travel expenses for athletes to compete across the USA

It offers a supportive environment for local youth, where they can learn life skills, work ethic, and discipline through training. The gym has garnered a strong membership base, largely due to the genuine care and support provided by coaches, mentors, and tutors.
