Garland, TX – The community is invited to participate in the CROWN Day Celebration on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Epiphany Gallery, located at 622 W. State St. This event, hosted by State Representative Rhetta Andrews Bowers and advocate Charlie Marcol, will focus on themes of identity, pride, and progress, highlighting the significance of natural hair and cultural heritage.

The CROWN Day Celebration commemorates National CROWN Day, which marks the passage of the CROWN Act (Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair). This legislation prohibits discrimination based on natural hair texture and protective hairstyles, affirming the importance of recognizing and celebrating Black heritage.
Representative Rhetta Andrews Bowers, the author of Texas’ CROWN Act (HB 567), continues to advocate for equity in educational and workplace settings. Alongside Marcol, the event aims to empower youth and foster community pride through a series of engaging activities.
Event highlights include:
- Natural Hair Showcase: A celebration of the beauty and diversity of natural hair.
- Motivational Talk by Charlie Marcol: The author of My Cool Crown will share insights on confidence and self-acceptance.
- Story Time with Rep. Rhetta Andrews Bowers: A session designed to connect with young audiences and celebrate their cultural narratives.
