GARLAND, TX — The Garland Animal Shelter & Adoption announced an exciting initiative aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership and enhancing the health of local pets through a new partnership with Dehart Veterinary Services. Beginning this June, the Low-Cost Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic will be available at the city shelter via Dehart’s mobile clinic, making affordable veterinary care more accessible to the community.
The clinic will operate every first Thursday of the month, with the inaugural date set for Thursday, June 5th. The vaccine clinic will run from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, offering a variety of services including spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and general wellness care. Appointments for same-day spay/neuter surgeries are required, so pet owners are encouraged to reserve their spots early.

“Don’t wait! This is a great opportunity to take care of your pet’s health needs without the high cost,” the shelter shared on Facebook. The initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on pet owners while ensuring that pets receive essential care.
Health and Behavioral Benefits
Spaying and neutering come with health benefits. For female pets, spaying eliminates the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer and reduces the risk of breast cancer. For males, neutering eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and reduces the likelihood of prostate issues. Additionally, spaying prevents uterine infections, such as pyometra, and studies suggest that spayed and neutered pets can live longer, up to 26.3% longer for dogs.
Behaviorally, spaying and neutering can lead to improved temperaments. Neutering reduces the urge to roam in search of mates, which decreases the likelihood of accidents and injuries. It can also reduce aggression in male pets and help lessen unwanted behaviors such as excessive barking or urine spraying.
The city encourages residents to take advantage of this program. For more information and to book an appointment, visit Dehart Veterinary Services.
