Rowlett, TX – The 12th Annual Freedom 5K, organized by the Rowlett Area Chamber, took place at the Rowlett Community Park and kicked off at 7 a.m. on July 4, 2025, attracting dozens of participants eager to celebrate Independence Day with an active morning. Runners of all ages took to the course, with time estimates ranging from 26 minutes to an hour. Spirits were high, with the primary focus being centered around having a good time.
The race saw exceptional performances, particularly from the Anderson family, who dominated the results. Emilee Anderson won the adult female category with an impressive time of 21:54. Faith is the coach for the Rockwall Mustangs Track Club and has raised a running family. Her daughter, Faith Anderson, secured victory in her division with a time of 21:24, while her son, 14-year-old Chance Anderson, achieved the overall male win with an outstanding time of 17:25.
In an interview with Chance, he shared insights into his competitive running journey and aspirations. “I did New Balance National first and got second in the 800. Then I went to Adidas, where I won the 400 and 800 and got second in the mile. At Brooks PR, I also got second, and at Nike, I won the 800,” he explained. Chance’s best time in the 800 meters was an impressive 1 minute 57 seconds.
When asked about his future plans, Chance expressed his aspiration to run for Texas A&M University, a school that holds significance for his family, as all of them have attended. His grandfather chimed in, “We’re all hoping that’s where he goes.” The family’s dedication to athletics is evident.
Other notable performances included Greg Rankin, who finished with a remarkable time of 20:03.
The Freedom 5K not only showcased incredible athletic talent but also brought the community together to watch the occasion and cheer on the participants.
