Looking for a new job

I’ve been looking for a new job. I’ve been with my current company 34 years. I think it is time for a change.

I have been actively looking for 6 months and I’ve had no interviews. I’m getting a little discouraged.

I have lots of training. I’ve been constantly taking classes. I don’t have a degree because I take classes that interest me. (A lot like the posts I write.) I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I applied for 3 jobs tonight. Two of them were for the local library system. I would love to work there. When I was in junior high and high school I haunted the library. I actually got to be librarian for a day at Kenmore Junior High when I was in 9th grade. (I won’t say how long ago that was.)

Many years ago I trained in a used book store. I was planning on starting my own store  when I retired from at&t. I don’t believe that would be a smart thing to do now. I love books and I would rather be holding a book then a reader. I see lots of people who have the e readers and like them. I just don’t think I would get the same feeling curled up in front of a fire with an e reader that I do with a book

New things I’ve learned today

My brother came to visit and he showed my pictures of the new Tesla Model X. I fell in love with the falcon wing doors. I have always liked Tesla cars.  I have another reason now.

I was also reading about retiring on as little as $1200 a month. The article said that Panama was growing but that you could still find places to retire for a lot less than here in the US. You would have to go outside of the metropolitan areas of Panama but it was still withing reason to do so.

I found that I could buy a place in the US for a reasonable amount of money. If I could purchase a home then I could live on my retirement very nicely. My nieces best friend moved back to a small town in Nebraska. I went looking on the internet and found that I could buy a home in what seemed to be a nice area for less than $80,000. That seemed fairly reasonable to me.

I know that I could always buy a place in Reno, Nevada for even less. I’ve lived in Reno before and it isn’t a bad place to live.

Having lived there I know the better neighborhoods. I was there last month and saw that there had been a lot of changes to the town. A lot of them were for the better. When I lived there the news was constantly reporting on the lack of water. I don’t know how they resolved there water issue but I didn’t see evidence of making the homes more ecological and efficient in water usage. I did saw that solar energy was being put in quite a few homes. I didn’t see a lot of wind turbines. This surprises me because Reno does get a lot of wind. It would be a sound idea to utilize the wind for power generation also.

I would prefer to retire here in the Pacific Northwest. I love the rain and the climate. It is just very expensive to purchase someplace that I could live in on my retirement. I don’t want to stay in my current home when I retire. It is too much for me to take care of.

I will continue searching for a place to call home in my retirement.

I need to lose weight. The plan…

I was working on losing weight. I had lost almost 40 pounds. I had lost 20 on my own. I started Weight Watchers and after my nephew was diagnosed with Type 1 I had to make some changes to pay for his meds. I gave up Weight Watchers. I gained back 20 pounds in 3 months.  I have to do something. So this is the plan…

1. When I feel hungry when I shouldn’t I will take a couple of minutes and read a few verses of my Bible.

2. I will create a food journal and note my weight every day.

3. I will exercise at least 20 minutes a day.  (I want to work up to 40.)

4. I will find fun things to do to exercise (dancing, hiking, chasing kids).

5. I will keep everyone informed of my progress.

6. I will analyze my progress and see if there is anything that I can be doing/altering to improve my weight loss.

I will except any tips. This last week I was able to lose 6 of the 20 pounds that I gained. I seem to have a problem with the weekends. Even though I thought I was doing well this weekend I still put on a couple of pounds. That has been a pattern for me even when I was following Weight Watchers. I will need to figure out how to break that pattern.
